Balkans itineraries: how to plan 7 and 10 days

7 days: two countries, no rushing

Pair neighbours that connect easily. A popular route is North Macedonia and Albania: Skopje and Lake Ohrid, then Berat and the Albanian Riviera. Another is Montenegro and Croatia: Kotor, then Dubrovnik and the coast.

10 days: the classic Western Balkans loop

With ten days you can add a third country, for example Bosnia and Herzegovina for Mostar and Sarajevo. Keep long driving days short, because mountain roads and border crossings take more time than the map suggests.

Plan around the season
